The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on clients in nursing homes

This thesis is focused on consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on clients in retirement homes. The research part is based on the results of a questionnaire survey conducted from December 2022 to January 2023 in seven facilities in the South Bohemia Region. The theoretical part characterizes the residential social services, the concept of senior and emotions, the measures related to the pandemic that have been introduced in retirement homes.
Palliative care in retirement homes

This bachelor thesis focuses on the topic "Palliative care in nursing homes". The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part contains 5 chapters focused on defining the basic terms related to death and dying, old age, palliative care, nursing homes and the topic of communication between nurses and clients and nurses and client´s families. practical part includes the elaboration and evaluation of the results obtained in the research. There were two objectives set in the thesis. The first goal was to find out the possibilities of providing palliative care in nursing homes, the second goal was to find out possible insufficiency in the providing of palliative care in nursing homes. Based on these objectives, we set the following 4 research questions: 1. How is the care of a dying client provided? 2. What elements and practices of palliative care are applied by nurses when providing palliative care? 3. What problems do nurses perceive in the provision of palliative care? 4. How is the communication between nurses and client's family being held? The strategy of qualitative research and method of semi-structured interview was used to achieve chosen goals. The research was conducted in two nursing homes in the South Bohemia region. The interviews were made with 10 nurses working in the nursing homes. The interviews included 30 questions which were focused on the palliative care, care of the dying client and cooperation with the client's family. The potential problems and weaknesses related to the mentioned topics were also covered. The results show that nurses, when providing palliative care, focus on pain relief, respect for human dignity, ensuring all the client's needs are met and closeness to the family at the end of the client's life. The most frequently mentioned problems by nurses in the palliative care were the absence of 24/7 doctor care, nursing home's facilities, finances, staff and also troubles in cooperation with the client's family.
Forms of active cooperation with a senior family in inretiment houses.

My Bachelor thesis addresses the topic of cooperation between retirement homes and families of elderly people, since the demographic aging represents a world-wide issue associated with the increased aging of population. The thesis aims to determine which forms of cooperation with families of elderly people are used by selected retirement homes in the South-Bohemian Region, and to specify the forms of cooperation in terms of efficiency, perspectives and current options implemented by retirement homes. The sectional goals of this thesis are to determine whether the retirement homes consider the cooperation with the families of elderly people as important for the purposes of providing comprehensive care and whether the elderly people are satisfied with the manner in which the institution cooperates with their family. The quantitative manner of research was used for the purposes of implementing the survey, while being performed via questionnaire surveys in selected retirement homes in the South-Bohemian Region. Thereupon, the secondary analysis of data was compiled in the Microsoft Office Excel 2007. The outcomes of the thesis may be used by retirement homes for the purposes of improving the quality of their services. Moreover, the retirement homes may also clarify whether the elderly people are satisfied with the particular cooperation between the family and the institution. The questionnaire surveys uncovered that the retirement homes consider the cooperation with the families of elderly people to be important for the purposes of providing their clients with comprehensive care and that the elderly people are usually satisfied with the cooperation between their families and the retirement home. As for the form of cooperation, the retirement homes mainly use the option of involving the family in the care being taken of the elderly person.
Activisitional activities in selected retirement homes in Vysočina Region

This bachelor thesis deals with activisitional and leisure activities in three selected retirement homes in the Vysočina Region. Specifically, it concerns SeniorCentrum SeneCura Humpolec, Domov Jeřabina Pelhřimov and Domov důchodců Proseč-Obořiště. The aim of the thesis is to describe activities offered in these retirement homes and which of them are most frequently used by the clients, or what activities would clients welcome in the offer. Furthermore, the aim is to compare the offer of the activities and their use. The theoretical part introduces the basic terms related to this issue. The practical part first describes and then compares the three selected facilities. The last part of the thesis is the research, which was conducted qualitatively, using semi-structured interviews with clients of the selected facilities. The results of the research showed that clients in the selected retirement homes most often participate in physical activities, canis therapy, music therapy and occasional outdoor sessions. The range and use of activities did not differ much between facilities, with unique differences highlighted in the thesis.
Care and support of the elderly with multiple disabilities in retirement homes

This master's thesis, named "Care and support of the elderly with multiple disabilities in retirement homes," focuses on the potential admission of these persons to retirement homes in the Czech Republic. The aim of this study is to find out whether and under what conditions seniors with multiple disabilities are admitted to the standard type of retirement homes. The empirical section deals with the legislative basis for retirement homes in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, it deals with sight, hearing, movement and cognitive functions in old age. For each of these monitored areas, this section contains descriptions of the greatest functional changes in the daily life of a senior citizen. The research section of this thesis is based on the testimonies of individual retirement homes. Sixteen randomly selected retirement homes were sent an application for the admission of a grandmother with diagnosed deafness and blindness. Based on their answers we can observe the attitudes of the individual facilities regarding this issue, and their conditions for admission. Development of public care institutions for the elderly in the Czech lands with special regard to period since 1918

The bachelor thesis deals with the history of the development of public institutions for the care of the elderly in the Czech lands. Specifically, these are institutions that existed here in our territory before in the past and which tried to play the role of today's homes for the elderly. The thesis aims to focus on the historical development of senior homes in the Czech lands. In order to explore this topic, it focuses not only on the diversity of care, accommodation, diet, forms of entertainment and other factors that have been observed in institutions for the elderly in the past, but also on public policy aspects such as laws, decrees or other legislation relating to these institutions. Using literature search, legislation and analysis of relevant sources related to individual institutions, data were collected on the development of public institutions caring for the elderly. The bachelor's thesis also shows the development of the welfare state in the Czech territory and shows the trends that appeared in the development of these institutions and captures the individual institutions in what they really were. Comparison of living standards of the elderly in retirement homes and in households

This bachelor thesis deals with the satisfaction of the elderly in the retirement homes - with respect to their services in three institutions of this kind. For this purpose, a quantitative method of the personal interviews has been chosen (12 clients in total, 4 from each home). The primary aim of this research (as well as the work itself) is to describe and interpret the situation and eventually to suggest proper changes in order to improve the seniors' quality of life. The first, theoretical part consists form three chapters. First: aging, life stages, old age. Second: human needs, quality of life, satisfaction (well-being), ageism. Third: welfare services, social (welfare) workers, associated laws, institutions and activities. The practical (analytical) part states the research questions, the method and the aims of the research. Also, it introduces the respondents, presents the results of the research and assesses its outcomes, which are the following. The elderly gladly accept "non-institutional" environment and put emphasis on their private. They preferred varied and tasty diet rather than nutritious or "healthy". Lifestyle and quality of life of seniors living in nursing homes for the elderly

Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with quality of life of seniors living in retirement homes. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part includes three chapters. The first chapter contains subheads, which delimit concept senior and old age, define physical, psychological and social changes, which senior in age passes. Second chapter includes demarcation of concept quality of life, his various concept in medicine, sociology and psychology. Second chapter also defines the difference between objective and subjective assessment of quality of life. At the end of this chapter are the most importantl factors affecting the quality of life of seniors. The third chapter includes some important aspects of life of the seniors in retirement homes. The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine how seniors subjectively perceive their quality in retirement homes and what factors affect their satisfaction and what factors disable to achieve their satisfaction. The practical part is processed by form of qualitative research, the main method is semistructured interviews with seniors living in retirement homes. From the acquired data were made detailed case studies. From the case studies was found that seniors living in retirement homes are satisfied. Their satisfaction is influenced mainly by the family, health and favorite leisure activities. Dissatisfaction of seniors is caused by need to use mobility aids resulting from health condition, safety regulations restricting freedom of movement seniors around campus home for the elderly and negative emotional tuning of other seniors at retirement home.
Personnel Standards of Quality in Social Services in selected facilities

The Diploma thesis is called Personnel Standards of Quality in Social Services in selected facilities. Theoretical part of the Diploma thesis deals with Standards of Quality in Social Services with emphasis on Personnel Standards and with Human Resource Management in Social services in context of these Standards. Practical part of the Diploma thesis defines the objective of the Diploma thesis and its partial targets, which are followed by four research questions. The analysis of primary and secondary data serves to answer the research questions. The results of the Diploma thesis show how the selected Retirement Homes in Plzeň-město uses Personnel Standards of Quality in Social Services for Human Resource Management. The recommendations ensue for the selected facilities in the field of Human Resource Management from this Diploma thesis.
Senior's view on the seraial Life is a ball: reception analysis of captured topics

This master's thesis is focused on reception analysis of Czech TV series "Život je ples". It is a family TV series produced by Česká televize. Its central topic are lives of clients of a retirement home, their families and employees of the facility, who are taking care of them. The analysis of reception is mainly devoted to how elderly, the social group which this TV show is about, perceived the series. The theoretical part introduces three approaches of audience research, the most emphasis is put on sociocultural research, which refused the power of text and admitted, that media texts are open to several possible interpretations in dependence on particular social context of every recipient and other conventions. From this approach arose reception research, which this thesis also introduces. It also describes problems of lives of the elderly and therefore puts forth a theoretical basis for subsequent analysis. The final point deals with construction of identity based on media fiction. In the empirical part the thesis focuses on several selected topics, which came from qualitative content analysis of individual episodes of the series.
